Ready Online Educational Resources for Remote Classrooms

Now more than ever, creating online learning experiences can make a real difference for parents, students and teachers who are experiencing a remote classroom for the first time. Consider the following key factors to help your resource get fully utilized.

Create lesson plans and instructions

Teachers need clear, short lesson plans to help reduce the distance felt by newly remote students and parents helping support them. Create two separate versions of lesson plans - one created for parents and another written for educators. If possible, create a short instructional video, even if it is just someone explaining the written instructions. If longer, more detailed instructions are needed for educators, create a quick start page and then provide more detailed instructions as a second document. Make sure both the lesson plans and instructions can be downloaded, emailed and easily shared.

Provide supplemental materials

Interactive learning experiences are used in the remote classroom to motivate and reinforce learning, but without the right supplemental materials some of the key learning elements may be missed. Most interactives benefit from two sets of materials: materials for educators and students. These can be created for specific grades or grade level groups. Most of our lesson plans include short overviews, technical needs, alignment to state and national standards, discussion questions and tips for remote learners.

Keep learners and educators engaged through rewards and follow-ups

Once you have developed an audience of dedicated students and educators, maintain the relationship with them through rewards and follow-ups. Rewards for successfully completion can include a printable digital certificate of accomplishment, and if budget allows, an email of accomplishment that can be sent to teachers and parents. Encourage them to sign-up for email follow-ups and connect with you on social media. Share best practice examples of how educators are using your materials to inspire wider use. Leverage insights from users to help evolve and improve your offering. If you are presenting at conferences or holding online feedback meetings, this is another opportunity to establish relationships. And, the best promotion is when educators use your resources and share their experience with their colleagues.
