SAE International and d’Vinci Earn Tech & Learning Awards of Excellence
We are pleased to announce that SAE International’s Autonomous Expedition has won in the Secondary Education category in this year’s Tech & Learning Awards of Excellence: Back to School 2024.
As part of its Computerized Driver Challenge curriculum, SAE International worked with d’Vinci to create the online game, Autonomous Expedition. Students take a thrilling journey where they guide a Motorized Autonomous Response Vehicle (MARV) through a simulated cityscape. In order to operate as an autonomous taxi, MARV must learn the complexities of driving without human help. MARV is tasked with safely navigating several traffic challenges. Equipped with advanced technology systems and machine learning, each attempt is an opportunity to collect and interpret new data. This information programs MARV with the skills needed to predict and respond to any scenario.
The game shows middle school students how MARV “sees” the world with sonar/sensor devices and how it learns with artificial intelligence. The game graphics simulate response stimuli through sensor indicators and icons that appear on the screen. Autonomous Expedition can be a standalone learning opportunity or complement any lesson related to Artificial Intelligence.
Back for the 2024-25 school year, the Tech & Learning Awards of Excellence seek out the most outstanding products offering schools versatility, value, and solutions to specific problems to support innovative and effective teaching and learning.
