Learning Magazine’s elite Teachers’ Choice Awards has recognized d’Vinci Interactive for its online educational experience, In and Beyond Africa.
Created for the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and the Smithsonian Institute, students in grades 6-12 explore how Homo sapiens evolved in East Africa and across the globe. Students explore the migration patterns that influenced genomic diversity by traveling an interactive timeline, testing tool making skills, controlling skin color variations and playing related games.
d’Vinci worked closely with the NHGRI's Education and Community Involvement team and other National Institutes of Health stakeholders to develop the concepts and content for In and Beyond Africa. In addition, d'Vinci facilitated feedback from middle and high school teachers to make sure the learning materials were relevant to students both in and outside the classroom. The interactive experience is featured on the "Learn" section of UnlockingLifesCode.org and in its companion newsletter, both created by d’Vinci.
The Teachers’ Choice Awards program has grown to become one of the most recognized and prestigious awards in the educational market since its inception in 1994. For the 2017 Classroom program, 30 winners were chosen based on scores from evaluations done by a panel of teachers across the country.
