Electoral Decoder
Educational Tool Enables Students to Understand the Electoral College
The PBS LearningMedia Electoral Decoder is a digital resource that contains data from the past 59 US presidential elections (1789-2020) in an Electoral College cartogram map. By interacting with either a geographic or cartogram map, students can use the Presidential Prediction tool to forecast election results and share their prediction with teachers, family, and friends on social media. They can delve further into the history of presidential lectures by learning about the Electoral College, the role electors play, and reviewing key events in past elections.
The d’Vinci team updated the widely-used Electoral Decoder in preparation for the 2020 and 2024 elections, including imagery of the current election’s candidates, and will provide support for the tool with post-election updates and statistics. d'Vinci built the Electoral Decoder using an HTML5 architecture that reaches students on desktop and tablet devices.
