Video interview with the CEO and Founder of Training Industry, Inc.
I recently attended the Training Industry Conference and Expo (TICE) in Raleigh, North Carolina. At the conference, we conducted a number of interviews with industry leaders from leading corporations to share over the coming weeks on our video blog.
TrainingIndustry.com is a well-known source of information about the business of corporate learning. Their website includes articles, case studies, white papers, research studies and global top 20 lists to support innovation and to connect buyers and sellers. Doug Harward is the CEO and Founder of Training Industry, Inc. and one of the leading authorities on trends in learning and development.
Through its ongoing contact with corporate learning and development leaders, TrainingIndustry.com understands their evolving role in leading businesses. In addition to changes in technology and changes in the learner population, Doug sees other changes impacting today’s learning leader.
When it comes to delivering performance improvement, today’s learning leader has a myriad of options from virtual instructor-led training to MOOCs to mobile performance support tools, social learning communities and many other approaches. Learning leaders need to make important decisions when navigating all of these choices and selecting the best approach and partner. TrainingIndustry.com consolidates and evaluates information from a variety of sources to help with these decisions.
Through its research and wide network of content sources, TrainingIndustry.com is a leading authority when it comes to trends in learning and development. At their recent conference, Doug cited a variety of trends including use of storytelling, the relevance of data analytics and the formalization of mentoring, among others.
Just prior to my interview, the news hit that LinkedIn acquired Lynda.com for 1.5 billion dollars. Lynda.com is a leading online learning company that provides courses for learning business, software, technology and creative skills. I asked Doug if this acquisition demonstrated a heightened interest in the learning industry.
Doug Harward’s final comment in the interview was probably the most important. He stated “More than anything I hope we see corporate executives recognizing that if learning is properly embedded in your system it can enhance the value of your business.” As leaders in the industry, it is our job to demonstrate this value.
