Creating Educational Resources to Teach Genetics.
For more than two decades, d’Vinci has partnered with the NIH National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) to create educational resources for the public and medical community. Working closely with the NHGRI Education and Community Involvement Branch, d’Vinci has designed and developed a wide array of educational resources, supported program implementation and created ongoing educational outreach. d’Vinci helped NHGRI and the Smithsonian Institutes celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the decoding of the human genome with an exhibit companion website and interactive learning experiences. In addition, NHGRI worked with d’Vinci to create five genomic educational websites for healthcare educators and practitioners. Together, we built two important educational resources, the Talking Glossary of Genetic Terms and a career-focused Genomic Careers website in support of public education initiatives.
Several projects developed by d’Vinci for NHGRI have been recognized with prestigious industry awards.
Website Accompanies Smithsonian Exhibit and Supports Genomics Education
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History wanted a companion website for an educational exhibit about genomic science. d’Vinci created a responsive website, including an interactive timeline, 3-D imagery, a virtual tour of the museum exhibit and video. In addition, d’Vinci implemented and maintains a Drupal content management system and provides ongoing interactive learning features and email outreach.
Interactive Journey of the Origins of Man
The NHGRI wanted an online educational experience for students to explore the evolution of Homosapiens. d’Vinci’s developed an interactive timeline and a series of five eLearning activities. Students learn by testing their tool making skills, controlling skin color variations and participating in games.
Promoting Student Discussion of Genomic Issues
The NHGRI wanted an online activity for exploring ethical issues in genomics. d’Vinci developed an interactive experience that provokes students with ethical questions. Students can compare their answers with others who have completed the activity.
Genetic Terminology Comes to Life for Students
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) wanted to put its helpful Talking Glossary of Genetic Terms in the hands of professionals on the go by converting the website into a native app for iPhone and iPad. d’Vinci designed and developed the app to take advantage of the unique features of an iPhone and iPad.
